Without a doubt, the best time to buy a treadmill or exercise machine is the winter holiday season, according to Colleen Logan, vice president of marketing for the iFit virtual training platform. That's when demand and sales spike.

Amazon also offers its best fitness accessories deals on gear like yoga mats, massage guns, and running headphones as part of its major retail sales events. In fact, the Wirecutter Deals team posted more exercise equipment deals from Amazon during its October Prime Early Access Sale, Black Friday sale, and Cyber Monday sale than any other period last year.

The good news is there are several ways to get the fitness equipment you need without breaking the bank. We'll tell you about the best time to buy workout equipment, plus offer tips to help you save on it, so you can stick to that resolution and get in shape.

Physical fitness is at the top of many people's resolution lists. So it's no surprise that exercise equipment flies off the shelves in January. But around 80% of resolutions vanish during February, according to Forbes. What happens when those resolutions aren't met?

You guessed it! Out the door goes that shiny, nearly new exercise equipment. For this reason, it's a good idea to look online in February for deals resulting from those failed resolutions. You can still shop in January, too, though. Retailers roll out promotions to help consumers meet their fitness resolutions, so you could definitely save.

Besides those early months, when does exercise equipment go on sale? If you're okay waiting until later in the year, watch for deals around the holidays. In 2021, DealNews featured more exercise equipment deals in December than in any other month; January came in a close second.

Some of the best hidden treasures can be found at garage sales for a fraction of what they're worth. And exercise equipment is no exception to the rule. So check out garage sales in your area or peruse the weekly circulars for community garage sales. You could find someone who's eager to dispose of a perfectly functional piece of equipment for far less than it's worth.

Of course, if you're on the fence about buying a pricey piece of equipment, renting can also be a great way to have an extended trial of sorts in your home. You'll have time to decide if you want to invest in that item or not.

In the absence of Ms. Winfrey making dreams come true handing out free fitness equipment, you are probably wondering when is the best time to buy a treadmill? In short, whenever you are ready! No matter the time of year, there is usually a great deal on home gym equipment around the corner. However, we can identify a few key periods where we often see the best prices.

The best time to buy exercise equipment is always around the holidays or the new year. Outlets know that people have more time on their hands, and will be looking for something to do with it, and many people will be looking to get fitness equipment.

Below we will dig into this a little bit deeper and uncover when the best time to buy gym equipment is exactly, as well as a great suggestion on what to do when there are no official exercise equipment sales going on.

Additionally, many people travel during holidays and may not have access to their usual workout routine, making cheap exercise equipment a convenient option so be on the lookout for deals on travel workout equipment if this is you.

Nobody needs to be filled in on what Black Friday means when it comes to getting top discounts. Fitness equipment sales are no exception! This is likely the time of year when prices are so unbelievably low that people are lining up to get into stores first, and then clambering over each other once the doors open.

We love that Titan always offers budget-friendly, quality exercise equipment. The brand usually offers even bigger savings around the holidays. Right now, we are seeing flash deals going on at Titan, like up to $200 off weight training equipment. And, as always, Titan offers free shipping.

TruGrit makes some of the best-value home gym equipment out there. On top of discounts on various strength training and cardio equipment, TruGrit is offering free shipping on all orders above $599.99.

The turn of the year is a time when many people are thinking about their fitness goals, and brands know that. Many discount their sales at this time, though Black Friday remains the best time to buy home gym equipment.

There are some pieces of workout equipment that are better to buy used than others. Cooper Mitchell, founder of Garage Gym Reviews, recommends buying items that are built to last a long time and won't break down. "Some pieces of equipment I would go for are dumbbells, kettlebells and weight plates," he says, adding, "These items are basic and they're made out of cast iron, so they're gonna last a long time."

You can find used workout gear at individual yard or garage sales, or in some second-hand stores. Nowadays, used workout equipment is also often purchased on online platforms like Facebook marketplace. You can even find used equipment on Amazon and eBay. So which is best?

"The real value tends to come from individual sellers on less visible markets like Facebook marketplace or even garage sales," says Grainger. Still, Claes warns that you should be selective about what exercise products you purchase online. "Depending on the reputation and return policies of the websites, you could consider purchasing relatively budget-friendly used exercise equipment online," he says, adding," But for pricier equipment and websites or sellers you don't know the history of, you likely want to have an in-person look before making any decisions."

Most importantly, make sure you do your research on the used equipment you're looking to buy. Claes recommends visiting at least one garage sale before committing to buying used exercise equipment from a store. By taking your time to properly research the product, you'll learn the average price and quality, which will help determine whether or not you're getting a good deal.

Claes advises that you make sure you are investing in at least a decent piece of exercise equipment. "In the short term, the low price may seem attractive," he says. "However, if you need to buy new equipment every few months, the used exercise equipment options may turn out to be not that budget-friendly."

We're expecting to see deals directly from Peleton, Bowflex and other exercise equipment makers. You will also see deals at Dick's Sporting Goods, where you may even be able to arrange for in-store pickup and get started faster. Make sure you check out Rogue Fitness for kettlebells and other strength equipment.

While we will see new TV sets announced mid-January, you can expect to see massive discounts on 4K TVs and even 8K TVs as retailers push for the Super Bowl. Be on the lookout for Walmart TV deals and clearance models.
